Help Us Build Our Next Cornish Pilot Gig!
A New Chapter for Come Boating!
Come Boating! is proud to have three Cornish Pilot Gigs—rowing boats that bring our members together, challenge us on the water, and are at the heart of what makes our club special. One of those boats, Malcolm G, is our only totally wooden gig and after many years of service, she now needs major repairs. Unfortunately, the cost and effort required to restore her are simply no longer practical. Rather than putting significant funds into a boat that will continue to require substantial maintenance, we have decided to look ahead and invest in the future of ComeBoating!
This fall our members will take on an exciting challenge: we are going to build a new gig ourselves! We have purchased a 32 foot Whitby Gig kit from Chesapeake Light Craft. This is more than a new boat. It is an opportunity for members & friends of Come Boating! to come together, learn new skills, build something we can be proud of, and create a boat that will serve our rowing community for many years to come.
We Need Your Help - And We Need It NOW
The kit is purchased, the project is underway, and we are preparing to begin construction this
fall.
Our total fundraising goal is $16,000 which includes the price of the kit and building materials.
We've already started to raise funds to make this project possible but we have a long way to go, and the timeline is important. We need to secure the majority of these funds before and during the build so that we can complete the project without putting any unsustainable financial burden on our regular operating costs.
Every contribution, large or small, will help us get this new gig onto the water.

A new gig will allow us to continue offering rowing opportunities to our members and the
community, welcome new rowers, support practices and events, and keep Come Boating active
and growing.
Most importantly, this boat will be built by our rowing community, for our rowing community. Years from now, we hope members and contributors like you will look at this gig and know that pulling together, we made it possible.
