Building a new Cornish Pilot Gig

Come Boating! has built a new, traditional, wooden gig at the O’Donovan & Dole boatshop in Searsport.  John O’Donovan and Patrick Dole are working from a set of plans that Come Boating! acquired from the Cornish Gig Pilot Association in Cornwall, UK.  Nearly all the wood being used was obtained locally.  Work began mid-August and was completed in late 2012.  Much of the finish work was done by Come Boating! volunteers.

Funding for this project has been provided by a grant from the Maine Community Foundation and by very generous donations from Come Boating! members.  More funds will likely be needed.  If you want to contribute something, send a check to Come Boating!, PO Box 1188, Belfast, ME 04915.
